Laboratory Technician
Job brief
We are looking for a responsible and experienced lab technician to carry out sample preparation, analytical measurements, data recording and result interpretation in
cooperation with the rest of the lab team. The successful candidate will have experience in a laboratory environment with accurate work procedures in order to extract reliable and valid results in a timely manner.
Job duties
- Prepare incoming samples or specimens
- Perform laboratory tests including pre- and post-analytic phases
- Analyze and record the resulting data in a proficient manner
- Record data and present data results in required formats (MS_Office)
- Follow SOPs in carrying out routine tasks
- Research relevant topics and gather information
- Maintain and update in-house literature and other databases (MS-Office)
- Adhere to correct procedures, policies and health/safety guidelines
- Keep abreast of all industry developments and best practices
- Document all activities, record results and insert/retrieve data
- Maintain work area and equipment
- Provide administrative assistance
- Assist in Method Development/HPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS
- Participate in training of new technologies, methods and other professional development activities

Requirements
- Familiar with automated laboratory equipment, especially HPLC, GC, MS
- One or more years of experience in quality assurance and quality control in an analytical laboratory setting
- Experience in maintenance and operation of state-of-the-art HPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS equipment, preferably for analysis of pesticides and other contaminants in food matrices
- Experience in heavy metal and nutrient analytics in food matrices
- Computer literacy (MS-Office, ACD Chemsketch, Vendor specific instrument software) and experience with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Experience in literature research and library database searches
- Accuracy and close attention to detail
- WHMIS training and First Aid Certificate (can be obtained at a later date)
- Strong analytical judgement
- Current driver’s license
- Post‐secondary school education or equivalent experience (Diploma, B.Sc.)
- Legal right to work in Canada
